Valerie, Dental Assistant
Hi! My name is Valerie Gagne, and I’ve had the privilege of working as an assistant in Dr. Johnson’s dental team since July 2006. Originally from Texas, I moved here from Okinawa, Japan, in the summer of 2006 with my husband who is in the US Air Force. We have since found many great new friends, beautiful places, and amazing things to do… and are right in love with the area. (I tell people all the time that Alaska is the best kept secret in the US.) We have one huge “kid” – our Great Dane, Tatum, who is a work in progress, to say the least. In my spare time, I have a wide variety of interests to keep me busy… from web design, travel, and writing to four-wheeling, tennis, and golf among other things. Oh, and ever since a team weekend at Skilak last summer, my newfound love is kayaking – definitely looking forward to doing that again this year!
Let’s see. I originally started my career as an emergency medical tech, but after a few years in the ER found myself looking for a change… and at the insistence of my sister, decided to give dentistry a try… so I headed back to school. That has been over ten years ago now, and turned out to be one of the best decisions I have ever made. I love what I do! I love the people I am able to help each day… the time we spend with them and the changes we can make in their life. There is nothing more rewarding than helping someone to feel better about their smile and themselves, to overcome a fear, or to just have the opportunity to build a simple relationship with them. It is an exciting field as well that is constantly changing and I enjoy the challenge of keeping up. Plus, I get to work with one of the most awesome group of people you will ever meet!
As much as I love my job though, I do live for the weekend time spent with my husband. We are continually making an “Alaska to-do list”, so please feel free to offer a suggestion when you see me.
