We are happy to announce that our service project in Mexico was a HUGE success!
As most of you know, Dr. Johnson, Dr. Burke, and our Anchorage dental team (with some family members) traveled to Baja in October to provide volunteer dentistry. Fifteen of us, laden with dental supplies, traveled in two vans from San Diego, a 7-hour drive south of the border, to an orphanage and mission near the village of Vincente Guerro. It is a very poor part of Mexico. We provided dental care at a small medical clinic for the children and people living in the surrounding area, all of who would not otherwise have the opportunity to receive dental treatment.
We were in high demand and did as much dentistry as possible in the week we were there! Those of us not able to work at the clinic did a huge variety of jobs—from childcare, to cleaning and organizing the warehouse, gardening, and escorting handicapped children home on a bus. (The orphanage also provided school for handicapped kids in the surrounding area.)
Since we lived and worked at the orphanage, we were all able to spend time getting to know the children and it was a very rewarding experience!
We want to thank you for helping to be part of our service project… some by your generous donations, and all of you for your kind words and support!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
