Dental Implants Procedure

The dental implant procedure starts with a comprehensive exam performed by implant dentists Dr. Kendall Skinner and Dr. Michael Fox. After the exam, our implant dentists will remove the damaged or missing teeth if necessary, and surgically place a small titanium post into your jaw bone. In some cases, the permanent restoration will be able to be placed immediately, but in others, the implant post will need time to heal. In which case, you’ll be fitted with a temporary restoration that looks like your other teeth but isn’t as strong as the permanent restoration. After the implant site heals, a permanent restoration that is functional, comfortable, and natural-looking will be fixed into your smile.

Dental Implant Candidates

Candidates for dental implants in Anchorage are those who are healthy and physically able to undergo surgery. Other considerations to keep in mind when considering dental implants are smoking, heart disease, diabetes, or radiation therapy to the head and neck. If you have or have had any of these, additional attention will need to be given to the case—but that doesn’t mean you can never get dental implants. Just as with natural teeth, you will need to commit to regular brushing, flossing, and visits to the dental office for cleanings and checkups.

The Dental implant procedure is performed under local anesthesia. Most patients who have received dental implants say the procedure is no more uncomfortable than a regular tooth extraction. Most discomfort following the procedure can typically be treated with over-the-counter medication (e.g., Tylenol, Motrin).

If you are worried about dental discomfort or suffer from dental anxiety, we also offer oral and IV sedation dentistry.

You will care for your dental implants just as you would your natural teeth. Brushing, flossing, and regular dental visits will ensure your dental implants, and your remaining teeth, stay clean and in good health for years to come.
