What Porcelain Veneers Can Do For You

Dental veneers can completely change and enhance the appearance of your smile. This is a flexible treatment that can fix a variety of issues at once. If your teeth are gapped and stained, porcelain veneers can fix both problems at the same time, along with correcting any sensitivity you may have. This quick procedure only takes two appointments to complete and can have you showing off your new smile sooner than you ever imagined.

Dental Veneers Procedure and Care

Porcelain veneers usually require two visits. During your first visit, your Anchorage cosmetic dentist will trim a small portion of the enamel off your teeth. Next, Dr. Kendall will take impressions of your teeth and determine the optimal color. While you wait for your new smile, your dental veneers are created in a lab. At your next appointment, your cosmetic dentist will bond the veneers to your teeth. Regular oral care is required to keep your veneers healthy; brushing and flossing twice daily, and cleanings twice per year at Excellence in Dentistry. In many cases, we prefer to use DURAthin which are ‘no-prep’ veneers. Not everyone is a candidate for DURAthin, but if you are, we can keep your enamel intact before placing your dental veneers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most patients report feeling no pain or discomfort during the porcelain veneer treatment. The portion of the enamel removed is equal to the thickness of the veneer to ensure a seamless fit. In many cases, we can use DURAthin and we don’t need to remove enamel at all.

Porcelain veneers are very durable. Although we call them “porcelain,” they’re actually made of advanced ceramics that are described as porcelain because they are white and translucent like porcelain. But modern materials mean porcelain veneers can be ten times as strong as your teeth enamel or more.

With this great strength and proper fitting by a skilled cosmetic dentist, porcelain veneers can last a long time. Studies show that more than 95% of veneers are intact and in place after 11 years.

If your veneers have become discolored and stained, you may be tempted to try a whitening treatment. Unfortunately, porcelain veneers do not respond well to whitening. The best defense is a good offense. Be proactive about keeping your veneers healthy and white by brushing twice daily and visiting your dentist for regular cleanings. If you notice your veneers needing attention, call Excellence in Dentistry at (907) 349-0022 for an appointment to remove surface stains.
No, dental veneers do not damage your natural teeth. In cases where we need to remove enamel, we only remove enough to make room for the veneers which act as a strong protective covering for your teeth. The bonding agent we use is safe and not harmful to your teeth or body.
